Samuel R. Allen, Chairman and Retired Chief Executive Officer, Deere & Company

Allen is Chairman of Deere & Company, a world-leading provider of products and services for agriculture, construction, road-building, forestry, and turf care. Allen has held the position of Board Chairman at Deere since February 2010 and had previously served as Chief Executive Officer, a role from which he retired in November 2019.


Allen was named Deere & Company President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2009. He was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Deere & Company Board of Directors in June 2009.


Previously, Allen served as President, Worldwide Construction & Forestry Division and was responsible for the global operations of John Deere Power Systems. Allen also has experience in Deere’s Worldwide Agricultural Division, leading operations in Latin America, China & East Asia, and Australia. In the past, he was responsible for Deere's intelligent mobile equipment technologies, Deere's advanced technology and engineering, and has been a leader in the areas of human resources, industrial relations, and John Deere Credit's global operation. Allen served as a senior officer of the company from 2001 to 2019 and has been with John Deere since 1975.


Allen brings global business and leadership expertise as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Deere & Company. He has extensive experience and knowledge of international business operations, manufacturing, marketing and sales which is particularly important given the global presence and nature of the operations of the company. Allen has public company board expertise resulting in corporate governance and compensation experience, as well as board leadership experience.


Allen serves on the Deere & Company Board of Directors (since 2009) and the Whirlpool Corporation Board of Directors (since 2010). He also serves as chairman emeritus of the Council on Competitiveness.
